What are spider veins?
Spider veins are small, damaged veins that often connect in a network that looks a lot like a spider’s web. They’re usually red, purple, or blue and most commonly appear on the legs or face. They’re most frequently caused by a burst blood vessel or one that’s stopped working. This can be caused by sun exposure, aging, hormones, or pressure within the blood vessel.
Although spider veins aren’t harmful, when spider veins crop up on your face or legs, they rob you of clear, unblemished skin. That’s why many patients choose to have their spider veins treated. And because these veins are so small and are already damaged, you can remove them from your body without impacting your blood flow in any detrimental way.
How are spider veins treated?
Spectrum Laser Aesthetics uses the innovative Astanza laser technology to clear visible spider veins. With the Astanza ReSmooth laser, they direct pulses of light energy into your spider veins. The hemoglobin in the blood inside those veins absorbs the laser light energy. As it does, the blood evaporates, and the vein collapses. Your body then starts to absorb the collapsed vein. Over time, it disappears completely.
This treatment is most effective on spider veins with a diameter of 3 mm or less. It can be used on spider veins anywhere on your body, including your face.
A single treatment may be sufficient to completely clear your spider veins. But if you have a large number of veins or your veins are highly visible, it may take multiple (usually two or three) treatments to fully break down all the visible veins. What should I expect during spider vein treatment?
